CHILDREN’S LITURGY of the WORD Children’s Liturgy of the Word is coming to St. Philip Neri Parish. It will begin in mid-September Children in First Grade thru Third Grade will be eligible to participate.  We will need volunteers to be “homilists” (at least 8-10 people) and “escorts” for the children. The commitment is on a rotating basis. The training will take place in mid-June. Anyone interested in being involved with Children’s Liturgy of the Word, please contact Jeffrey Daley: 215-541-3120.

ST. PHILIP NERI PRE-CANA For the past eight (8) months, the St. Philip Neri Pre-Cana team has been forming and preparing to begin its ministry for couples intending to marry in the Catholic Church. Our beginning workshop will be this Fall of 2008. The dates scheduled: Monday, September 15th & 29th, October 6th, 13th & 20th. Couples needing to attend Pre-Cana must attend all five (5) Monday evenings. Each Monday Presentation will be held at the Neri Center beginning at 7:30 pm. Couples marrying at St. Philip Neri will receive letters about the upcoming Pre-Cana workshops. Two workshops will be offered each year, one in the Fall & the other in the Spring.

The Ministers of Hospitality are just one of the ministries that are making an effort to create a “family” environment. However, we are in need of individuals to help with this program. As a member of any family, we are committed to love and support each member. There is no difference in being a member of the St. Philip Neri Parish Community. It involves being an active participant by supporting all of our Church’s efforts to help us grow in grace. Our primary need is to have a substitute list to draw from when one of our regular Greeters and/or Ushers are unable to attend the Mass they have selected. This truly will be a great help if you could lend some assistance. We also could use regular Greeters and Ushers for some of the Masses. If you have any questions or would be interested in helping us out, please contact Dawn at 215-679-2160 or email at: dellis@netcarrier.com. You may also contact Doris at 215-679-6101 or email at: gmomdecker@yahoo.com.

H.O.P.E. Do you need a FREE ride to appointments, store, bank, phone assurance, light housekeeping?? Volunteers are willing to respond to these needs. Please call H.O.P.E.! Outreach Office: 215-679-2282 or Kathy & Bob Talbot: 215-541-0250.

FRIENDLY VISITORS MINISTRY Many parishioners in our parish are lonely and homebound. They are in need of someone to visit with them, listen to them and share their joys and sorrows. Heed your Baptismal call to follow Jesus and love one another. The only requirement is that you have the willingness to listen. Your time commitment is entirely up to you. If anyone is interested in becoming a Friendly Visitor, please call Sister Patricia Kelly at the Parish Outreach Office: 215-679-2282.

ELIZABETH MINISTRY NEWS Can you remember when a brief conversation with your mom, sister or friend left you feeling energized and encouraged? The support of women for women is essential during the childbearing years-we all want to know that someone else understands our joys and sorrows and that someone does care. The Elizabeth Ministry at St. Philip Neri Parish reaches out to women in our parish to celebrate the expectancy, birth or adoption of a child, to console and comfort a woman experiencing the frustration of infertility, the pain of miscarriage or child death and even the confusion of raising a child with special needs. In following the example of our Blessed Mother as she visited the expecting St. Elizabeth, we want to sincerely love and support women in their time of need and happiness.  If you would like to serve other women in our parish or if you know someone who could use an understanding friend, please contact LaRue Emmell at: 215-679-3086.

GET WITH THE PROGRAM! What Program You Ask? THE H.O.P.E. PROGRAM! H.O.P.E. is an anacranem for HELPING OTHER PEOPLE ENTHUSIASTICALLY.  As you know, the greek word “THEOS”  means GOD.  “EN THEOS” means IN GOD.  So when you help enthusiastically, you are helping IN GOD!  You are helping the PEOPLE of GOD!  Now you may be asking:  “what kind of help do H.O.P.E. participants give?”  some of what they do are:  transport people to doctors’ appointments or to church; visit sick and shut-ins, make a light lunch for someone; in other words, to meet any kind of little but unmet need that someone has.  when the program begins, training will be provided (for free) by the parish outreach office, located in the rectory building of your parish. Continue to read your bulletin for more information about H.O.P.E. and encourage others to read about it.
Download the H.O.P.E. Brochure.
