EPIC – A Journey through Church History

The next ten (10) week session will start Thursday, February 6, 2014 at 7:00 pm and Friday, February 7, 2014 at 10:30 am. (this is due to First Friday) in the Neri Center.  You can come either in the evening or morning; whatever your schedule permits.  If you have been part of the first ten (10) weeks, this is a reminder for the next sessions; if not, you are invited to join in the program.  This will be the second ten (10) week class starting in the 1300's (weak Leaders and Schism), through present day.  We view a DVD and this discuss what we saw (the comments from the class are varied and help us to form a better understanding of our belief).

Won't you join us?  If you feel you haven't caught up, you can borrow the first DVD and study at your leisure.  You are required to have a workbook that covers all the questions for each session.  The cost for new students is $25 for the workbook.  If you have any questions, call Joan Lampart: 215.529.5686 or jmlampart@verizion.net.

The Garden Club works on the grounds every Wednesday (April - October) from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm weather pending.

SILVER SPIRITS – REVAMPED

NEWS!  NEWS!  NEWS!  The Silver Spirits Group has been REVAMPED to include men and women, 55 years of age and older who live a single life. This part of Silver Spirits is for socialization designed to affirm, support and encourage others in similar situations.  Meeting and socializing with single persons 55 and older, who live in St. Philip Neri Parish has the potential to reinforce the benefits, rewards and values of single life.  As we transition through life, friendship and companionship with other older singles in our parish faith community becomes important.

WE ARE NEVER TOO OLD TO MAKE FRIENDS!!

Watch the Bulletin for further information on REVAMPED Silver Spirits.

Troop 591 Scout News

Recent Outings of Troop 591

February:  On February 16th, Troop 591 visited Valley Forge State Park for their 101st annual pilgrimage.  After an opening ceremony, members of Troop 591, along with other troops from the area, began going through stations.  At each station, they received a demonstration of some aspects of life during the Revolutionary War. The troop ate lunch while at the park.

March:  On March 16th, Troop 591 helped the church with an electronics recycling project. The purpose of the drive was so local residence could drop off their old, broken electronics to be recycled. The troop helped by gathering and sorting electronics. Members of the troop then enjoyed a brief pizza break and then cleaned up the Stations of the Cross.  Later that day, the troop went to Reading to go rock climbing at Reading Rocks.  Members of the troop over age 13 helped climbers by controlling the ropes, allowing them to climb and descend safely. The boys climbed all different walls, easy and hard, including some where the wall was actually slanted in some areas! The weekend also involved camping at the troop’s cabin in Perkiomenville.

May:  On May 18, the troop biked the Perkiomen Trail from Green Lane Park to Central Perkiomen Valley Park.  The ride was tough, but the scouts proved worthy of the challenge.  The ride covered 16 miles, and was a true test of rider and machine.  The day concluded with fishing in the Perkiomen, which proved a harder challenge.

Troop members who attended these events include Boy Scouts Patrick Souder, Matthew Souder, Liam Daley, Ben Kaminski, Andrew Hunsberger, and Thomas Heibeck and leaders Mr. Ben Gouldey, Mr. Andrew Souder, Mr. Robert Whittaker, Mr. Joe Smith and Mr. Tom Devine.

Upcoming Events:  June—monthly campout; July—canoe trip down the Delaware; August—campout at Delaware County Gun Club for gun safety and shooting lessons.  The Troop will attend summer camp at Resica Falls is Bushkill, PA from July 28 to August 3, hoping to top last year’s haul of 36 merit badges.

If these type of activities sound fun to you, please call Andrew Souder at 267-253-9717. Boy Scouting is available to boys who have completed the fifth grade and are at least 10, or who are 11, but not yet 18 years old. The program achieves the BSA's objectives of developing character, citizenship, and personal fitness.
