SAINT PHILIP NERI BIBLE STUDY

Do you know about the Gospel of Matthew?

Not much is known about Matthew.  Also called “Levi,” he was a tax collector before answering Jesus’ call to discipleship.  Like many tax collectors of the time, he may also have been a scribe.  Matthew once held a feast for Jesus and was later chosen by Jesus to be one of his twelve apostles.

The Parish Bible Study group invites you to 24 weeks of study of Matthew’s writings.  The program will be broken into 3- 8 week sessions.  Study materials will be available.

Each week we will watch a video on a specific lesson, discuss the portions of Matthew’s Gospel that apply.  Through the discussion we will have a better understanding of what Matthew’s message means to us.  This study is part of The Great Adventure series.

You will have two opportunities to join us – Monday evenings or Friday mornings.

First evening class is Monday, February 1 at 7:00 p.m. in the Rectory meeting room.

First morning class is Friday, February 5 at 9:00 a.m. in the Rectory meeting room.

The cost for study materials is $35.00.  Checks should be made payable to St. Philip Neri Church.   To register, contact Joan Lampart, 215-529-5686 or email jmlampart@verizon.net asap. (please put Bible Study on subject line).

CHILDREN’S LITURGY of the WORD Children in First Grade thru Third Grade are eligible to participate.  Anyone interested in being involved with Children’s Liturgy of the Word, please contact Jeffrey Daley: 215-541-3120.

CHARISMATIC PRAYER GROUP Every Monday at 7:00 pm in the Chapel. Come to grow closer to God and experience the power of the Holy Spirit through prayer, praise, song, scripture reading, teaching, witnessing, and use of the charisms.  Discover the love of God in a more profound way. Call Rich at: 610-323-1127.

ALPHA

ALPHA begins on Wednesday, February 24 th.  Come to the first (INTRODUCTORY) Session in the rectory meeting room at 6:30 pm.  For more information, please go to the website: www.alphausa.org.  ALL ARE WELCOME!

The Ministers of Hospitality are just one of the ministries that are making an effort to create a “family” environment. However, we are in need of individuals to help with this program. As a member of any family, we are committed to love and support each member. There is no difference in being a member of the St. Philip Neri Parish Community. It involves being an active participant by supporting all of our Church’s efforts to help us grow in grace. Our primary need is to have a substitute list to draw from when one of our regular Greeters and/or Ushers are unable to attend the Mass they have selected. This truly will be a great help if you could lend some assistance. We also could use regular Greeters and Ushers for some of the Masses. If you have any questions or would be interested in helping us out, please contact Dawn at 215-679-2160 or email at: dellis@netcarrier.com. You may also contact Doris at 215-679-6101 or email at: gmomdecker@yahoo.com.

The H.O.P.E. Ministry is part of Outreach and services our Church Community. H.O.P.E. provides FREE transportation for medical appointments, errands, respite care, light housekeeping and to mass. Our volunteers are parishioners who are willing to serve and answer your needs.  Please call Kathy or Bob Talbot, Coordinators at: 215-541-0250 or the Outreach Office: 215-679-2282. Download the H.O.P.E. Brochure.General H.O.P.E. Meeting is on Monday, October 26th, 7:00 pm in the SPN Social Hall. Please try to attend.

From The Parish Outreach Office: If you are having extreme difficulty paying for your prescriptions, I have the phone numbers of several pharmaceutical companies that will give them to you FREE, if you qualify. If interested, please call Sister Patricia Kelly, M.S.B.T. at the Parish Outreach Office at: 215-679-2282. If no answer, please speak slowly and leave your name and phone number.

FRIENDLY VISITOR MINISTRY A faithful friend is a sturdy shelter; he who finds one finds a treasure. Sirach 6:14. Are you willing to be of service to one of God’s people by lending a listening ear and making small conversation in order to lift spirits? You would be developing a valuable friendship with another parishioner who is lonely and homebound.  The rewards are immeasurable. Call Shirley at the rectory: 215-679-9275, or Sister Patricia Kelly at the Outreach Office: 215-679-2282. Speak slowly, please.

FROM THE PARISH OUTREACH OFFICE

Elizabeth Ministry Update

Can you remember when a brief conversation with your mom, sister or friend left you feeling energized and encouraged? The support of women for women is essential during the childbearing years--we all want to know that someone else understands our joys and sorrows and that someone does care.  The Elizabeth Ministry at St. Philip Neri Parish reaches out to women in our parish to celebrate the expectancy, birth or adoption of a child, to console and comfort a woman experiencing the frustration of infertility, the pain of miscarriage or child death and the confusion of raising a child with special needs. Our next meeting is Wednesday, March 17, 2010 starting at 7:00 PM in the meeting room of the Social Hall.  All are welcome. Mark your calendar and plan to attend. Call LaRue Emmell at 215-679-3086 or email: lemmell2@comcast.net. We always welcome new members!

Friendly Visitor Ministry Yearly Report

Over the past year our ten (10) active, dedicated Friendly Visitors brought joy, comfort and companionship to our homebound and Nursing Home residents through 245 visits (355 volunteer hours).  We could always use more Friendly Visitors as there are many parishioners in need of company.  Interested? Call the Rectory at 215-679-9275 or email lemmell2@comcast.net.

Needed: A few good men-and women to become a Friendly Visitor and/or a H.O.P.E. (Helping Other People Enthusiastically) Volunteer. A short Orientation Program is required before beginning. If you can serve God’s people as a Friendly Visitor or, a H.O.P.E. Volunteer, please call Sister Patricia Kelly, M.S.B.T. at the Parish Outreach Office: 215-679-2282. If no answer, please speak slowly and leave your name and number. Please say the number, twice.

WELCOME COMMITTEE

NEW MEMBERS NEEDED!

If you haven’t been born and raised in the area, you know how you felt when you first moved into the parish.  You don’t know anyone.  Did you know that St. Philip Neri Church has a Welcome Committee?  Did you know that we contact new parishioners soon after they register in the parish and tell them all about the parish, its activities and groups within the Parish.  Our parish is growing; so our Welcome Committee is growing.  We need a few good men or women, or couples to contact these new families – the more the merrier!  We meet four (4) times a year to find way to improve our approach to new families.  Can we count on you?

For more information, please contact Joan Lampart at 215-529-5686 or email to jmlampart@verizon.net (please put SPN Welcome Committee on the Subject Line so I will know it is from a parishioner.)

BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT GROUP

Jesus wants to continue to heal you and comfort you on the death of your loved one. One of the ways He uses is our Bi-Annual Bereavement Support Group. Our next Bereavement Support Group will be held for six (6) consecutive Tuesday evenings, beginning March 16th and ending on April 20th. Meetings begin at 7:00 pm in the Parish Outreach Office in the rectory building. By attending our Bereavement Support Group, you can help yourself and others in the grieving process. If you plan to attend, please call Sister Patricia Kelly, M.S.B.T. at the Parish Outreach Office: 215-679-2282*. If no answer, please leave your name and telephone number. Please say the number slowly. *Before March 12th

MARTHA MINISTRY There will be a meeting of the Martha Ministers on March 11, 2010 at 7:00 pm in the Parish Outreach Office. We need your input, so your attendance is necessary. If interested in being a minister or helper, please contact Kathy Talbot at: 215-541-0250 or Sister Patricia Kelly, M.S.B.T. at the Parish Outreach Office: 215-679-2282.

THE PARISH HISTORICAL COMMITTEE

A new committee is being formed to catalog and record the Events in our parish.  One phase of our task will be to review and catalog the many photos and newspaper articles we already have.  We hope to interview many of our long-time parishioners and record all future parish Events.  There will be a minimal number of meetings; the majority of work will be done at home. If you have any questions or would like to be part of this committee, please call Shirley at 215-679-9275, or email Doris at: gmomdecker@yahoo.com.
