Dear Liturgical Ministers:

          Please find enclosed your 3rd Quarter 2008 schedule.  We tried to accommodate your preference as much as possible.  However, you may find yourself assigned to a Mass that may not be your first choice.  If this is the case please understand that you were needed at that time.  Each of us performs a service to our parish and our Lord.  That service is actually a ministry that we offer out of love for our neighbor and our Lord.  Sometimes ministry requires sacrifice.  If you find that you are unable to attend the Mass to which you are assigned, please find a substitute.  We thank you for the sacrifices you make and encourage you to always remember that Jesus loves you for them.
           Please note we have suspended cups for the summer months due to the large number requests off during the vacation season.
If you find that you will be unavailable any weekend for the next period (October, November, December 2008) please let us know by calling Shirley in the parish office at 215-679-9275, dropping a note in the collection basket, or emailing us a spn-lm@comcast.net.  October 3rd is the cut off date for requests.
Please pay attention to the following instructions.  Altar Servers:  You must be vested and in the sacristy at least 15 min. prior to the beginning of Mass so you may help the priest or deacon set up.  If you are not present by that time we will start looking for others to take your place at that Mass.  Lectors:  When you are finished with the 2nd reading please put the Lectionary on the pulpit shelf to make room for the Book of the Gospels that is brought to the pulpit by the priest or deacon.  Ministers of Holy Communion:  Cup ministers are to stand on the cantor side of the altar.  Host ministers are to stand on the pulpit side of the altar.  This helps us to know who has which assignment and it prevents crowding on either side.  Also, please do not go to your assigned station until all of the other ministers (including priests / deacons) are ready to leave the sanctuary to start Holy Communion.  If you are taking the Eucharist to a shut-in, please bring your pix to the tabernacle after communion.  The priest or deacon will then give you the Sacred Host.  Wait at the bottom of the steps for the priest to dismiss you.  DO NOT ASK FOR THE EUCHARIST WHILE IN THE COMMUNION LINE.  COME TO THE TABERNACLE.
 The schedule is no longer being sent via e-mail.  We ask anyone with a computer to simply check the link on our parish web site (www.spnparish.org).  As always there will be paper copies available in the back of the church for those who do not have computers or web capability.

DRESS CODE
LITURGICAL MINISTERS

The parish Liturgy Committee with approval of the Pastoral Staff has developed the following dress guidelines for anyone who serves as a minister at liturgical functions:

Men:  Collared shirt (tie and coat are appropriate), neat dress or casual pants and shoes.

Women:  No bare shoulders, no spaghetti straps, no short skirts, no jeans, no tank tops, tasteful sandals

Altar servers: No athletic shoes, no spaghetti straps no shirts with writing, no T-shirts, no flip-flops, no shorts, no jeans

Of course, there are exceptions.  In an emergency, we may be pressed into service at times other than those we are assigned.  At these times, we respond no matter what we are wearing.  However, we should make every effort to be aware of this possibility and dress accordingly whenever possible.
