MUSIC TO INSPIRE

Music is a lifesaver. Really, it is. Music is one of the best things God gave to us humans. Think about it; you probably know of about 2 or 3 or 10 songs right now that resonate with you, just based off how they sound or what the lyrics mean.

"GOD WOULD NEVER INSPIRE ME WITH DESIRES WHICH CANNOT BE REALIZED; SO IN SPITE OF MY LITTLENESS, I CAN HOPE TO BE A SAINT."

Understand Bullying When you, your child, or someone close to you is being bullied, there are many steps to take to help resolve the situation. Make sure you understand what bullying is and what it is not, the warning signs of bullying, and steps to take for preventing and responding to bullying, including how to talk to children about bullying, prevention in schools and communities, and how to support children involved. After reviewing that information, if you feel you have done everything you can to resolve the situation and nothing has worked, or someone is in immediate danger, there are ways to get help.

BULLYING

I’m Imperfect. And That’s Okay. This false life of never enough permeates every aspect of our culture. When we pick out what to wear to school we ask, “Will others notice me?” When we step into the locker room to change out for sports we compare our body with that of others. When we get report cards… sports awards… drama or music evaluations… We are never enough. And when we do excel, there’s always some way we can (and “should”) improve.

Calm in the Storm?: Living with AnxietyI would panic. I didn’t understand what was going on. My heart would race, my palms would sweat, and my body felt like it belonged to another world, but as a little girl all that I could explain to my mom was “that I felt weird.” Throughout my childhood I experienced situations like this. I lived in fear, but not the type of fear that could be silenced by a calm voice or reason. My mind spun, my brain hurt, and I often felt panicked.

DEPRESSION & ANXIETY

Save the humans I can remember being a freshman in high school, hearing the word “abortion,” and having no idea what it was. I was walking through the streets of Washington DC with hundreds of thousands of other people. They were chanting and waving signs and praying fervently. My toes were freezing and I would’ve sworn two of them had actually fallen off. As my boots trucked through the snow, I began to wonder how and why I was there.

CHOOSELIFE

Thinking about drinking? I talk to teenagers just about every day, and the conversations are often the same. They deal with the Bible and what the Church teaches and how challenging it can be to live a holy life in an unholy culture. I’d say that most teens that I talk to are truly looking for the Lord; some, however, are looking less for the Lord and more for the loopholes.

We’re in Love… Is it Okay to Have Sex Before Marriage?I’ve got to hand it to you guys: you are so, so creative. I have a lot of friends who are teens, since I work with teens full-time and volunteer at my parish’s youth ministry. And I love watching my newsfeeds blow up with these crazy, over-the-top “promposals.” You know, where you cover a person’s car in Post-It notes and fill it with Skittles and then stand behind it, waiting with a pizza that says, “Prom?” in M&Ms?

PURITY

ABOUT US

Catholic youth are not merely the Church of the future. They are also vital members of the Church today. Our young people face a variety of challenges as they navigate their way to spiritual maturity.

St. Philip Neri Youth Ministry is dedicated to guiding them along this journey of faith.  All high school students are welcome to join this growing community of youth who deepen their faith in Christ.

There are also various opportunities for growth and community building throughout the week along with many opportunities for service. The group has a core leadership team of adults, coordinated by our Youth Minister, Anita Fuhs.

Youth Ministry meets at the Parish Hall on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month from September through April. There are social events and a retreat in the summer.
